Programme for Kids and Young Adults

Programme for Kids and Young Adults

The goal of this section is to inspire young people, with their many and varied media experiences and skills, to get interested in the medium of film and to introduce them to the cinema as an aesthetic and social experiential space. Thanks to a dedicated committee of teachers who view the films in advance, programmes are created that are both high quality and suitable for classroom teaching. This concrete link to Dortmund schools makes our programme one of the most successful initiatives of IFFF Dortmund+Köln.

The screenings show works of all genres and lengths, always geared toward different age groups, ranging from the KITA programme to foreign-language films in their original language for older age groups.

This year’s selection of films in the Programme for Kids and Young Adults will be presented to live audiences again at cinemas in Dortmund and Cologne. We hope more young viewers than ever before will enjoy plenty of interesting encounters and join in some lively debates. As always, we will be presenting the best international films across all genres. Screenings will be accompanied by a film mediator and followed by discussions with some of the film-makers. The programmes will take place in German.

In 2020, we have also started awarding a prize for the best short film for children, the highly regarded award presented by the European Children’s Film Association (ECFA).

The film programme for children and young people is the only festival section running simultaneously in both Cologne and Dortmund.
