The goal of this section is to inspire young people, with their many and varied media experiences and skills, to get interested in the medium of film and to introduce them to the cinema as an aesthetic and social experiential space. Thanks to a dedicated committee of teachers who view the films in advance, programmes are created that are both high quality and suitable for classroom teaching. This concrete link to Dortmund schools makes our programme one of the most successful initiatives of IFFF Dortmund+Köln.
The screenings show works of all genres and lengths, always geared toward different age groups, ranging from the KITA programme to foreign-language films in their original language for older age groups.
This year’s selection of films in the Programme for Kids and Young Adults will be presented to live audiences again at cinemas in Dortmund and Cologne. We hope more young viewers than ever before will enjoy plenty of interesting encounters and join in some lively debates. As always, we will be presenting the best international films across all genres. Screenings will be accompanied by a film mediator and followed by discussions with some of the film-makers. The programmes will take place in German.
After packing her diary with dance tournament appearances in Germany and abroad in her youth, Lisa ditched the disco dance glitter and devoted herself 100% to film. She racked up practical experience during her international master’s degree in film and audiovisual media at Ruhr University Bochum working for cinemas and film festivals in the Ruhr region. After two stints abroad as a student, in France (Université Lille III) and Belgium (Université de Liège), she was a transcriber for the Duisburger Filmwoche documentary festival and took charge of organisation for the doxs! dokumentarfilme für kinder und jugendliche festival for children and young people. Since 2016 she has been responsible for the Films for Kids and Young Adults programme for Internationales Frauen* Film Fest Dortmund+Köln, where she highlights current cinematic works for our youngest audience.
»Strong girl and woman characters are permanent fixtures on screen in our Film Programme for Kids and Young Adults. What I like most about my work is giving children and young people the opportunity to venture into both new and old worlds, to experience stories they’ve never encountered before as well as familiar ones, and to discuss ideas with each other and with film-makers about the stories.«
Alisa Berezovskaya came to the Ruhr to study philosophy and media studies and was so impressed by the local culture scene and its diverse cultural events and activities, that she ended up staying here. She has worked for blicke filmfestival des ruhrgebiets since 2015, becoming a member of its management team in 2020. In 2022, she is standing in for Lisa Rölleke as organiser of the Programme for Kids and Young Adults at IFFF Dortmund + Köln.
»With moving images constantly present in children’s lives, I’m looking forward to exploring the world of film with young audiences − whether it’s welcoming them to the cinema for the very first time, discussing what they’ve seen or taking a look behind the scenes in workshops.«
