Spot on, NRW!

Next to its international focus, IFFF Dortmund+Köln also showcases talent from the region with the section Spot on, NRW!. This year, we are turning the spotlight on a milestone for the independent film scene: the founding of the association Freie Szene Film Dortmund e.V.

Supported by Wirtschaftsförderung Dortmund (Economic Development Agency of Dortmund) and the Kulturbüro der Stadt Dortmund (Cultural Office of the City of Dortmund), the association aims to draw the attention of film fans and filmmakers to the local film scene with open-air cinemas in public places, cinema programmes, workshops and networking events.

We are presenting a short-film programme with six films by Dortmund-based filmmakers who navigate the space between the desire to seek out safe havens and the urge to conquer new places. Above all, the films express the desire for resistance, which manifests itself in quiet, everyday actions – a glance, a movement, a refused word. But it is also presented as an intentional departure from the expected or as a form of artistic rebellion.

The programme is not just about showing films, its intention is to open up the scene to new faces, to bold visions, to the next leap forward. Spot On, NRW! is both an invitation and a statement – an invitation to discover new perspectives and a statement about the strength of the independent film scene.
