Short Film Programme: 117 Years of Sisterhood in Film

Short Film Programme: 117 Years of Sisterhood in Film

A woman stands in front of a tapestry and looks to the side.

They’ll break you down if you’re on your own. This short film program with live music celebrates communities that stand together joyfully, defiantly, and strongly.

The programme grew out of a spontaneous and joyful exchange between two film curators. Our resources are rich archives of feminist films we love, and a shared desire to pass on our knowledge to others. We sat together and began brainstorming names – films that have celebrated sisterhood for more than a century, films that create communities, stand together, joyful and resilient.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to develop collective strategies together – like the filmmakers and protagonists in these films, who are stronger together than alone? This selection invites us to embark on a journey through a common land.

Curated by Betty Schiel & María Zafra Cortés, in cooperation with: Mostra International de Films de Dones de Barcelona

The silent short films will be accompanied live by: Gunda Gottschalk (violin), Sara Neidorf (drums), and Ute Völker (accordion).
