La grève des nourrices
Streik der Ammen
André Heuzé
Nursemaids in Paris rebel against their miserable working conditions and take to the streets. A physically formidable troupe quickly forms, and even a large police presence fails to quell their boisterous resistance. Fun is very much part of this labour dispute. Meanwhile, the unsupervised children set off on a protest of their own. In varying constellations, these three groups clash in gloriously exuberant slapstick choreographies.
In classic vaudeville style, some of the characters are played by cross-dressed men; the identities of the roughly 20 performers remain unknown. Several scenes draw directly on the short comedy The Kitchen Maid’s Strike, also produced by Pathé in 1906.
