This early short film by Cheryl Dunye is one of the first »Dunyementaries«, a term she coined to describe »a mix of film, video, friends and a lot of heart.« Playing herself in the film, Dunye humorously explores the lesbian dating scene in the 1990s, exposing the ways fetishisation and racism manifest within queer communities.

Cheryl Dunye (geb. 1966) ist eine liberianisch-amerikanische Filmemacherin, Videokünstlerin und Performerin. Sie trat Anfang der 1990er-Jahre als Teil der Queer New Wave in Erscheinung. Ihre oft intimen Arbeiten analysieren die Zusammenhänge zwischen Ethnie, Geschlecht und Klasse im Leben Schwarzer Lesben. Humor, die Verschmelzung von Fiktion und Realität, die Darstellung queerer Gemeinschaften und die Einbeziehung der Regisseurin selbst als Protagonistin sind grundlegende Elemente ihres Schaffens.
