Shoot – KHM & IFFF Dortmund+Köln Award for Emerging Female Artists of the Academy of Media Arts Cologne (KHM) is an honour sponsored by the KHM for the outstanding artistic achievement by a female graduate. It is essential to raise awareness of gender inequality in the film industry among female film-makers early on during their studies and give them the right support. Young directors often describe the first years after graduating from university as a sobering awakening. However emancipated they felt in their academic environment, their professional experience demonstrates that we’ve still got a long way to go to achieve equality in the film industry.
The prize is being awarded for the fourth time in 2024 and goes to Laura Engelhardt. Congratulations!
From the jury’s statement:
»With Mascha, Laura Engelhardt has made an intense film about a self-empowered young woman that stays with you, making you reflect on social grievances without losing sight of humanity. Her latest work is a superb example of cinematic storytelling: story and form skilfully fused with an exceptional sense of timing and rhythm.«
Shoot is a joint gender equality collaboration between Equality / Discrimination of the Academy of Media Arts Cologne KHM and IFFF Dortmund+Köln, and comes with prize money of €1,000. The films are shown as part of the section, Spot on, NRW!
The prize will be awarded by a jury consisting of three curators of IFFF Dortmund+Köln: Conny Beißler, Elke Kania, Nicole Rebmann
