Short film programme from 16 years

A young woman with long dark hair is resting her chin thoughtfully on her arms as she leans against a wall. Standing next to her is a little boy, looking at her.

The programme for age 16 and over explores family relationships, home and tradition – and the move away from stereotyped gender roles towards female self-determination. In Night Watchers, Nora rebels against the custom barring her, as a woman, from attending her grandmother’s funeral in Algeria. Nine Days in August follows an 18-year-old navigating the bureaucracy of obtaining an abortion, told with sober, unflinching intimacy. The Daughter of Both Women collages diaries, photos and videos in a search for family and identity – a life shaped by two mother figures and no father.
