Europe, your own apartment, hunters posing after a shoot, frustrated mothers-to-be, women acting like robot vacuum cleaners, light waves, a pussy that develops a mind of its own … these are just a few examples of what awaits us with the Film All-Nighter. It’s a multi-coloured Pippi Longstocking world. Since Trump took office, anything is possible, including mass protests. Pop music has long since started taking on a more political tone, focusing more on reality than self-presentation. In Go Off, M.I.A. shows no pictures of people but creates a montage of landmine explosions. Europa also features documentary shots of European industrial regions and pedestrian areas that are filmed in passing. In Hail the Bodhisattva of Collected Junk, Taiwanese junk collectors shout out for scrap metal and old electronic gadgets. Living space as a commodity: Christiane Rösinger tries trading her apartment in Eigentumswohnung, but attracts people she knows rather than property sharks. Some lose the plot: Moms on Fire experience nothing of the hyped joys of pregnancy. The ExplorerIn 2009 travels illegally in an inflatable boat through a national park in South America. Other protagonists remain stuck in their role: forty-five years of marriage leave Close Ties. Despite Zdzisław’s eight-year absence, Barbara and her husband are back together again: it is a marriage of attraction and repulsion. Two performances are dedicated to the representation of femininity in a male-dominated pop culture. Lisa Gornick presents a thirty-minute version of her Lesbian Film Live Drawing Show (see p. 102). What’s Good? brings together evidence of a spoilt girl and LGBTQ culture, ultimately giving the protagonists what they deserve – visibility (see p. 103). The Film All-Nighter, shaken but not stirred.
