Unearthing. In Conversation.
Belinda Kazeem-Kamiński
An empty auditorium. A stack of photo boxes. A colonial flashback. As a performer, Belinda Kazeem-Kamiński studies a series of ethnographic images taken by Austrian photographer Paul Schebesta in the 1930s, in what is now the Democratic Republic of Congo. Is there a correct way to approach these images? Kazeem-Kamiński speaks directly to the depicted people, shows her solidarity and, through her dialogue with them, explores strategies for an oppositional gaze.
