Let Iranian Vampires Suck your Blood; Horror Beyond the Camera
Negar Tahsili
Negar Tahsili explores the conspicuous absence of horror movies directed by female-identifying Iranian film-makers. Drawing inspiration from Carol J. Clover’s book Men, Women, and Chain Saws and Hélène Cixous’ essay, Aller à la mer, Tahsili uses images and film sequences to demonstrate how ordinary scenes can be seen as horror moments in Iranian films. Tahsili emphasises that exoticized depictions frequently overshadow alternative representations in the West, and she subtly unravels the complexities faced by film-makers and female-identifying actors within the Iranian cinema landscape.
