Léontine is spending the holidays with relatives in the countryside – the perfect opportunity to play a prank or two! Perfume, pots, fruit, vegetables, chairs, uncle, aunt, the cook, the gardener – nothing and no one is safe from her mischief. Not even a scolding or the threat of having her holiday cut short can dampen her rebellious spirit. Many of the Léontine films are a joyous celebration of freedom, audacity, rule-breaking – pure anarchy.

How is it possible that we don’t even know the name of the actor who played Léontine, let alone her life story? An internationally beloved enfant terrible, the film character of Léontine Penouillard was comical, naughty and anarchic. Between 1910 and 1912, Pathé Frères produced around 20 episodes of the Léontine series. Nicknamed Titine in France and Betty in the US and Britain, she enjoyed global popularity, but then disappeared from the public eye.
