Visitors to a senior citizens’ club re-dub the male roles in the action film Dead Bang (1990). The B-movie was one of few American films to be released simultaneously in West Germany and in the cinemas of what was still East Germany, where it heralded the end of socialist representations of womanhood with the arrival of Hollywood’s cultural imperialism.

Kerstin Honeit works with experimental documentary moving image formats. In her films, she examines mechanisms of representation in hegemonic image production, in connection with cultural and linguistic modes of translation. She focuses on the politics of the (film) voice and on how the voice as a queer event within moving images can upset the gaze regimes of the dominant culture. Kerstin Honeit.
