»The dandelion, it flowers, is pollinated and its petals close.« In her Super 8 film, Ingeborg Tölke explains how flowers reproduce. She captures the pollination, the fruiting head and seeds spreading in poetically beautiful macro and fast-motion shots. A male narrator explains the facts. Fahrt ins Blaue is the first East German amateur film to enjoy international success, winning the silver medal at UNICA 1965 in Dubrovnik.

Ingeborg Tölke from Neuenhagen near Berlin is an outstanding amateur film-maker from East Germany, one of the country’s few female film-makers. A chemist and macro photographer, she created photos and films with artistic intention from the 1950s onwards. Between 1962 and 1970, she and her husband produced around 15 award-winning nature films that were meant to be shown publicly. After being accused of working professionally without a production licence, she was forced to stop filming.
