Specials

Our Specials programme includes films, talks, performances and a whole lot more – the icing on the cake, items that add extra flavour to the Festival’s programme.

For this edition of the festival, we have invited our Berlin colleagues from Arsenal on location to present the documentary film about the first women’s film seminar in 1973, a film that could only be completed over 50 years later. We are delighted that our jury member Yasemin Şamdereli will be presenting her latest cinema film Samia. And with our popular Cinema to Go format, we are bringing short films into public spaces – for free and outdoors.

But cuts and ‘non-increases’ in the independent scene’s budget have stopped us serving the full Specials menu this year – so the Cologne programme will not take place, for example.

Please get behind the Cologne campaign for the independent scene to turn this situation around: Make some noise! Keep your hands off the independent scene! Keep your hands off film culture!
