Space Is Quite a Lot of Things
Space Is Quite a Lot of Things
August Joensalo
Curiosity about a world without gender leads from jellyfish to liberated dancing to disco music in your own room, to the question of whether gender can also be felt in your toes. It’s about a feeling of being at home in your own body beyond traditional gender markers. Four trans people report in an intimate and experimental way how they (don’t) feel their gender and imagine their own queer utopia.

August Joensalo lives in Helsinki and is a queer film-maker, photographer and author. Film is their medium for imagining queer, and in particular trans, utopias. They are interested in issues of how queer bodies are represented in films and in questioning the binarity of language, bodies and identities. Joensalo graduated with a Master’s in Film from HDK-Valand in Gothenburg in 2021.
