Ana Vaz compares mining regions in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, and in northern France. The artist calls on us to »look closely at the mountains«, offering us poetic images and sounds. On the one hand, soil erosion in Brazil is causing devastating landslides, on the other, spoil tips in France have developed into precious nature reserves where researchers measure and catalogue the area’s newfound biodiversity.

Ana Vaz ist eine Künstlerin und Filmemacherin, die Film als Instrument nutzt. Zu Film-Gedichten komponiert, bewegen sich ihre Filme entlang von Gebieten und Ereignissen, die heimgesucht werden von den immerwährenden Folgen interner und externer Formen des Kolonialismus und den Spuren, die sie auf dem Land, bei den Menschen und nicht-menschlichen Lebensformen hinterlassen. Als Erweiterung ihrer filmischen Arbeit drückt Vaz sich u. a. auch in Schriften und Installationen aus.
