Amy likes playing football, and is considered strange by the other children because of it. Jack is deaf and dumb and spends the afternoons alone at his window. The two gradually reach out to each other in a special way, but Jack shies away from direct contact, and withdraws into himself again. When Amy is threatened by a gang of girls, Jack comes to the rescue.
