»Why have you changed my name?« – »Because you write it like that in Germany« – »But my name’s written like this!«: Aïcha. Not Aicha, the way it appears in her citizenship certificate. The eleven-year-old is angry – at her mother and at the authorities. Why can’t she be German with two dots over the ›ï‹? Aïcha decides to fight for her name. She meets Arabie, Daisy, Haddy, Karidia, Linzy, Mabinta, Matou and Maxi, who all encourage her.

In collaboration with doxs! documentaries for children and youth.

Portrait of director Faraz Shariat

Faraz Shariat

Having grown up as a second-generation person of colour in Germany, Faraz Shariat wants to offer a conscious alternative to conventional German cinema, where post-migration experiences and stories about immigrants and their families are too often left out or misrepresented.
