There is already a tradition at the Cologne festival location of introducing young audiences to current international films and their creators. For this reason we would like to continue offering teachers the opportunity to enhance their lessons with our programme of films selected from a mediaeducational perspective.
The films of the school film programme are this year aimed at younger pupils between the ages of six and twelve. The documentaries and short films chosen portray everyday or special situations of children and young people in different cultures, social contexts and individual family constellations.
Active involvement is explicitly expected. This can take the form of adopting a film, for example, offered for the first time, or in the successful film discussions moderated by a media educationalist. Through this, children and teenagers can experience the genuine festival atmosphere and get actively involved. This is also reinforced by cooperations with extracurricular institutions, such as the Online magazine for young media criticism, Spinxx, an initiative of the jfc Medienzentrum [Media Centre], which along with CinePoint – Schule des Sehens [School of Seeing] and the now 20-year-old children’s and young people’s filmfestival Cinepänz are well-known to Cologne residents. doxs! dokumentarfilme für kinder und jugendliche [documentaries for children and teenagers] Duisburg and the Schulfilmwoche [School Film Week] Münster are also partners standing by our side.
