»Framing the Archive« – IFFF Dortmund+Köln goes Berlinale

The 12th discussion organised by the IFFF Dortmund+Köln on gender equity and the status of women in the film industry entiteld »Framing the Archive – A Past that Leads to Us« will take place on February 20 as part of the 74th Berlinale.

Film archives are essential for film festivals and they have a significant influence on the past, present and future of directors’ cinema. In our panel discussion, we will ask questions about a critical approach to the feminist film archive. How to deal with absences in archives where women, LGBTIQ+, People of Colour do not appear? What is the curatorial practice for historical films that contain sexist and racist images, scripts and ideologies?

These critical questions will be discussed with a panel of international experts:

Gaby Babić (Director Kinemathek Asta Nielsen)
Jihan El-Tahri (Filmmaker, visual artist and producer)
Dr. Elisa Jochum (Department Head – Film Heritage, Deutsche Kinemathek)
Elif Rongen-Kaynakçi (Curator Silent Film, Eye Filmmuseum)

Moderation: Dr. Maxa Zoller (Artistic Director IFFF Dortmund+Köln)
