With ANGELINA MACCARONE

In this workshop, writer and film director Angelina Maccarone will be giving participants an insight into her films, ideas and work philosophy. She will also be talking about her life and her career with all its positive moments and setbacks. Also, in conversation with Ms Maccarone, participants will be able to find out more about her personal take on things, her film directing skills and her work as a writer. Her talk will be illustrated and complemented by a series of film extracts while leaving adequate time for questions from the floor.
Angelina Maccarone
Angelina Maccarone began her career as a songwriter (including pieces for Udo Lindenberg, the German rock star) before she came up with her first screenplay entitled Kommt Mausi raus?! – this in a collaborative venture with the NDR, the North German Broadcasting Corporation. As a result, she was directly nominated for a TeleStar. Also made for the NDR, her films Alles wird gut (Everything Will Be Fine) and Ein Engel schlägt zurück (An Angel‘s Revenge) were given screenings at numerous international festivals (Toronto, Los Angeles, Paris, Milan and London, for example) winning many an award in the process. In 2004, she directed Fremde Haut (Unveiled), for which she received in 2005 the Hesse Film Award. Her next project was the cinema movie Verfolgt (Hounded) which went on to win a Golden Leopard at the Locarno Film Festival. You can see Verfolgt in Dortmund at this year‘s festival in the Independent-minded Woman programme section, a portrait here of actress Maren Kroyman. Since 2007, Angelina Maccarone has written and directed three episodes for Tatort (Crime Scene), a popular cop thriller series on prime-time German TV. Also in 2007, she made the cinema movie Vivere which has been a big success at various festivals. She has just completed her latest project, a cinema film about actress Charlotte Rampling.

Dorothee Wenner
Freelance film-maker, writer and curator Dorothee Wenner lives in Berlin. She works on behalf of the Berlin International Film Festival, the Dubai International Film Festival and the African Movie Academy based in Lagos. It was in Nigeria that she shot her documentary film Peace Mission. In her capacity as Berlinale Ambassador, she is highly committed to films made in India and Germany. In 2004, she was thus honoured with the Gisela Bonn Award of the German-Indian Society and, in the same year, she was engaged as curator for the Import Export project. She is currently working on a fiction feature film.
