Spot on, NRW! presents: WEYDEMANN BROS.

Jakob Weydemann, Jonas Weydemann

In the Spot on, NRW! section, the stage is opened up to producers with portfolios impressively weighted towards films by women directors. This section pursues two aims: firstly, as an international film festival, we don’t want to overlook local film production. Furthermore, we firmly believe that defining film production along strict national lines is long since obsolete due to the large number of transnational co-productions.

Brothers Jakob and Jonas Weydemann from Hamburg launched their production company Weydemann Bros. in Berlin in 2008. In 2011, the company branched out to Cologne, where they are supported by Yvonne Wellie since 2015 and Milena Klemke since 2017. In a literal sense, the Weydemann Bros. broke all moulds and expectations – especially their own – in 2019 with System Crasher, a debut film by Nora Fingscheidt which took the international scene by storm. The films made by the two brothers include critical, challenging debut feature films by young female directors, including Sabrina Sarabi (Niemand ist bei den Kälbern), Aylin Tezel (Falling into Place 2023) and Amanda Neil Eu (Tiger Stripes 2023).

A workshop discussion will tell us more about their artistic vision and their dialogue with a young generation of up-and-coming directors

Guests: Jakob Weydemann und Yvonne Wellie
