Herat International Women’s Film Festival in Exile + Screening »In the Room«

Two women dressed in dark clothes and wearing headscarves are walking across a red carpet, with a white backdrop in the background.

Welcome to the Herat International Women’s Film Festival, Afghanistan’s first international women’s film festival! After a decade of success, the festival was forced into exile following the Taliban takeover; from the US, festival founder Roya Sadat is trying to keep it going against all odds. By providing a platform for the festival, we are expressing our solidarity and ensuring that the cinematic achievements of Afghan female directors are not forgotten. Shown will be the documentary In the Room by Brishkay Ahmed. Alka Sadat, co-director of the festival, will be joining us for a discussion.
