In a studio setting, the exiled director Brishkay Ahmed meets three generations of female stars from the Afghan cultural scene: the singer Mozhdah Jamalzadah, the first »Ms Afghan«, Vida Samadzai, actor Sahar Parniyan, internationally renowned journalist Nelofer Pazira and – perhaps most remarkably – Shogofa Sediqi, former editor-in-chief of ZAN TV. Sediqi speaks in a quiet, measured voice about what we would not hesitate to call acts of heroism: her empowering, often life-threatening work in Kabul, the obstacles she faced on the path to an independent professional life and her eventual departure on a dangerously overcrowded plane.
Ahmed meets these extraordinary women – all now living in exile – as a colleague, as a journalist and simply a fan. The result is a film that weaves together the personal and the globally political. Intimate interviews, archive footage and enacted dream sequences give each protagonist her own creative space to speak and tell her story. A film about the importance and power of role models and the power of media images of women.
