The Connection. A Multi-Media Show

The festival steps out into the public arena and brings to life the empty spaces. We are showing international video art from a variety of our festival sections in Dortmund’s shop windows. We want people passing by to stop, and take a moment to just watch. The »Connection« between plants, humans and other animals is a common thread running through the works featured in this programme. Human, animal and plant life are all intertwined; when it comes to the distribution of habitats or food, conflicts and scarcities are predestined. How do we register other forms of life? What emotional bonds can develop? A tribute to decomposition and decay in their sublime beauty. Even a tomato plant with just one fruit deserves love and its very own harvest ritual. A pack of wolves and a flock of sheep are filmed from overhead: the wolves interact, they sense something unusual about themselves, while the sheep orbit unfamiliar terrain in a choreography all their own. The programme offers new visual axes. We all need to have more eye contact again.

Pia Gräwe, with interior and spatial design students from Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts, will set up the video artworks in their respective locations. Viewers can download the soundtrack of the short films onto their mobile phones using a QR code. The locations of the three shop windows: Königswall 14, Brückstraße 64, Friedhof 6-8.

The exhibition will open on Monday, June 14th. at 6.30 p.m. in front of the Bar Am Schlips in Brückstrasse 64.
