Inspired by Ingmar Bergman’s Autumn Sonata, the order of playing piano is put to the test. While we follow the concentrated gaze of one woman playing, another seems to be watching her, even taking over her playing. Whether transience is mounted here in a virtuoso manner or every glance also means control, a sense of threat lingers over it all, throwing us back to ourselves in Chopin’s composition.

Jenni Toikka
Jenni Toikka graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki in 2012. She has had several solo exhibitions in Helsinki, including at the galleries Sinne, Forum Box and Kluuvi. In autumn 2019, her work was shown in the solo exhibition Reel at HAM – Helsinki Art Museum. Toikka’s video works have been shown internationally in group exhibitions and festivals.
