»Together« – PANORAMA Section for Documentary and Experimental Films
PANORAMA, our section dedicated to contemporary documentary and experimental films, presents eight programmes this year, including one world premiere and three German premieres.
A sense of longing pervades our society: we are losing our connection to one another and to the world around us. The PANORAMA section of the IFFF Dortmund+Köln presents contemporary and groundbreaking documentary and experimental films. Films that forge connections where things are crumbling, that touch us where we are in danger of forgetting, and that give us courage where community seems distant.
Autofiction, which has been prevalent in documentary film for years, becomes relevant when the processing of one’s own biography through old and new film material does not remain stuck in self-absorption. Despite the diversity of their autobiographical approaches, the films in PANORAMA always achieve a transformation – be it one’s own politicisation, one’s own emancipation, or that of others. We weave threads through archives that tell of a different Lebanon. We learn what it means to be connected to one’s own garden. We decide to go on a sex strike and, in doing so, feel close to other women. We fall in love again, quite by chance, and cross borders on the Atlantic. We look to the women of Iran who are driving revolutions, because change is only possible together.
Under the title »A Dream Without a Job? How Do We Become Feminist Film Curators?«, PANORAMA – A Matter of Form explore the essence of feminist curation.
PANORAMA is curated by Vivien Buchhorn and Sandra Riedmair and presents films and contributions by Amalie Atkins, Ángela Carabalí, Alice Dalgalarrondo, Lana Daher, Alizé Jireh, Sophie Bédard Marcotte, Bani Khoshnoudi and Gabrielle Stemmer.
The complete programme will be available online here from the end of March.
