The artist returns with her sister to a town in Lower Saxony where they spent part of their childhood and youth. The parents came there from South Korea to study. The younger sister has only lived in Germany for a short while and no longer speaks German, instead speaking Korean. For Ji Su Kang-Gatto herself, though, German is more her day-to-day language and the one she knows best. The two sisters exchange observations and experiences on their joint journey. In the process, they are also faced with racist and sexist encounters. Vlog #8998 | Korean Karottenkuchen & Our Makeup Routine is conceived as an online vlog, but on the video platform itself, Kang-Gatto doesn’t contextualise this experience of violence.
