Lolita hates to laugh, Kevin doesn’t know how to sell himself and Hamid doesn’t like bosses. They’re 20, poorly educated, and looking for work. Three years after Les Arrivants, a film about the institutions that grant asylum, Claudine Bories and Patrice Chagnard take a similarly emphatic look at the lives of another marginalised group in their country.
The film accompanies its six young, sometimes stoic, sometimes shy, but always strong protagonists on their search for work over a six-month period. They have all been told to enlist the help of a private job agency that will prepare them for the job market, but the job market has nothing to offer them. They’re supposed to learn to behave properly, make the most of their appearance, and polish up their language. Ironic subheadings, such as »Kevin rebels«, anticipate what will happen in the next part.

Carefully edited from 150 hours of footage, the film uncovers the rules of today’s job market: what doesn’t fit is made to fit – or rejected. Capturing numerous bizarre and personal moments, the film highlights society’s inability to deal with the younger generation.
