No Land No Food No Life
Amy Miller
»Global food production is increasingly becoming concentrated by a handful of huge multinationals, not only impacting people ›over there‹ but also ›right here‹. I believe that if people knew what was happening they would be concerned and want to take action, not only to create a more just and equitable world, but also in their self-interest to access food.«
– Amy Miller
If, over the centuries, agriculture used to be essentially a private operation, it has over the last few decades, become a global issue. Investors buy up huge areas to produce food and maximise profit. Left behind are the indigenous famers robbed of their land and livelihoods. Not only that: food production in some of the countries that supply Europe are complicit in violations of human rights – Mali, for example, where sugar cane is grown.
Here at home, hardly anyone has heard of this, which is why Amy Miller sets out to tell us how it is. Combining personal stories with archive material, she lends a voice to people struggling to keep their land and their autonomy. No Land No Food No Life is a drastic film – an urgent appeal to stop looking the other way and to help stop the large-scale landgrabs perpetrated by the corporate food industry. And a call for sustainable agriculture.
