Ten-year-old Nele has one big wish: to touch the clouds – preferably, from a hot-air balloon. But life has its challenges: Nele’s mother has various disabilities and their small family relies on support for many everyday tasks. With sensitive, unhurried images that give its young protagonist space to breathe, the documentary captures Nele’s remarkable resilience, quiet confidence and irrepressible joy – never losing sight of her dreams along the way.
Bernadette Hauke
Bernadette Hauke is a filmmaker with over 20 years’ experience as a writer, director and producer. Her work focuses on themes of nature, the environment and society. She studied nutritional science in Bonn, but at the same time began her television career in the science editorial department of WDR. Her documentaries are dedicated to people of all ages and from all corners of the world, with a particular focus on children’s film projects.
