The mock documentary Marcus Fisher’s Wake shows some of the public interventions conducted by Oreet Ashery’s alter ego, Orthodox Jew Marcus Fisher. Ashery combines documentary material produced in Berlin, Tel Aviv and London, with home videos and anonymous photographic stills. The film thus charts the fictional life of the character Marcus Fisher, from his childhood to his early death.
Oreet Ashery
1966 in Jerusalem geboren, studierte Ashery Kunst am Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London sowie an der Sheffield Hallam University. Die Arbeiten der in London ansässigen Künstlerin sind in international renommierten Galerien und Museen zu sehen und gewannen zahlreiche wichtige Preise. Asherys Werk bewegt sich im Spannungsfeld zwischen Judentum, Ethnizität, Gender und der arabischen und muslimischen Welt.
