Kind als Pinsel (Kooperatorka)

The artist’s memories of her childhood in the GDR. Astonishing as it may seem, the title Kind als Pinsel (child as paintbrush) is to be taken literally in this performative short film. The soundtrack is provided by Bertolt Brecht’s musical epic Die Erziehung der Hirse (the cultivation of millet), a tribute to the »great harvest helper« Josef Stalin, which was set to music by Paul Dessau in the early 1950s. Else Gabriel sings several parts from the choral piece.
Else Gabriel
Else Gabriel arbeitet seit 1987 als freiberufliche Künstlerin in Berlin. Sie studierte Bühnen- und Kostümbild an der HfbK Dresden und war Mitbegründerin der Auto-Perforations-Artisten, deren Performances sie bekannt machten. Als Professorin ist sie seit 1997 tätig, derzeit an der weißensee kunsthochschule berlin. Ihre künstlerische Praxis umspannt Performance, Fotografie, Video, Installation und Malerei. Unter dem Namen (e.) Twin Gabriel arbeitet sie auch mit dem Videokünstler Ulf Wrede zusammen.
