Sound of Falling tells the story, across generations, of the lives of four women on an old farm in the Altmark. The film takes us through the 20th century and the stories of Alma (1910s), Erika (1940s), Angelika (1980s) and Nelly (2020s), whose lives are intertwined in a mysterious way.

Alma tries to unravel the mystery surrounding her sister, who died young; Erika discovers her own sensuality in the midst of the Second World War; and Angelika – with the village now in the GDR – tries to break free from the confines of her family. In the 2020s, a girl named Nelly arrives with her parents from Berlin at the farmstead, which is in need of renovation, and is haunted by intense dreams and an unconscious burden. Thus, the present and the future blur in this masterpiece of interwoven storytelling about transgenerational connections.
