Im Ernstfall nicht verfügbar (»Unavailable in an emergency«) is the eighth part of an episodic film made by nine film-makers. The common theme running through all episodes is the threat of a possible world war in the early 1980s. Funke-Stern reflects on roles that women have adopted during war. As she says, these ranged between appropriation and resistance. The point of reference is World War Two and a letter from a young mother to her husband who is fighting at the front in 1941.
