Vladlena Sandu wurde auf der Krim geboren und zog 1988 mit ihrer Familie nach Grosny. 1998 musste sie in die russische Region Stawropol umsiedeln. Sie studierte zunächst an der Rodchenko School of Photography and Multimedia und begann 2011 ein Regiestudium am staatlichen Gerassimow-Institut für Kinematographie (VGIK). Mit ihrem Debütkurzfilm Kira gewann sie 2015 den Jurypreis auf dem Kinotawr Festival, Sotschi und den Preis für die beste Regie und Kamera beim VGIK International Student Festival, Moskau.
