Pomegranates and Myrrh
Najwa Najjar
At the centre of Najwa Najjar’s debut film is a woman who learns to assert herself in a man’s world: after her newlywed husband is captured by the Israeli army, it is Kamar who has to run the family’s olive farm. But this puts her at odds with her passion for dance: Kamar wants to modernize the traditional Dabkeh dance. As if this wasn’t enough she also falls in love with a dancer.
Pomegranates and Myrrh is the first full-length feature film by a Palestinian female director and has won awards at numerous festivals.
