Fuses
Carolee Schneemann
The film Fuses arose from the question of how desire could be portrayed on film. Therefor, Schneemann assembles erotic scenes with her partner in such a way that the film takes on a strong painterly and sensual character. Basically, she treats the Super8 film material like her partner, editing it until it is sticky, scratched and heated. But the banal and everyday also always has its place in Schneemann’s films, especially her beloved cat with the meaningful name ‘Kitsch’.
Fuses contains depictions of sexual nature.
Carolee Schneemann
Carolee Schneemann is one of the most important feminist artists of the 20th century. She is part of the generation that understood – and invented – performance as an art form. The photo documentation of Interior Scroll (1975), in which she pulls a scroll out of her vagina and reads it aloud, is still one of the most iconic photographic works in art history.
