Exile Exotic

The setting for Exile Exotic is a hotel that is a replica of the Kremlin. The film relates the exotic beginning to the exile of the film-maker and her mother from Russia, and takes them both back to the Kremlin – only now it’s standing next to a pool. Backed by an operatic score reminiscent of the siren song that detained Odysseus from his homecoming, the narrative reveals the full extent to which individuals’ freedom of movement was curtailed throughout the history of Russia.

Die 1989 in Russland geborene Künstlerin Sasha Litvintseva lebt heute in London und arbeitet als Filmemacherin, Wissenschaftlerin und Kuratorin. Sie ist Absolventin der Slade School of Fine Art und promoviert aktuell am Goldsmiths College der University of London, wo sie Gründungsmitglied des Screen and Audiovisual Research Unit ist. Sie ist als freie Filmkuratorin und Ko-Kuratorin des November Film Festivals tätig. Ihre Arbeiten wurden weltweit auf zahlreichen Festivals und in Einzel- und Gruppenausstellungen präsentiert.
