It’s the summer holidays and there’s nothing to do. Time drags and it’s so hot. Nine-year-old Manon is spending the day at her aunt’s Afro hair salon. When a new customer arrives, Manon notices the woman is wearing beautiful shell-shaped earrings. Inspired by these, Manon’s daydreams take on a fantastical, almost physical form. Is the woman a queen of the sea who listens to the heartbeat of the purple whale?
Julie Daems
Julia Daems (1993) studierte Kunstgeschichte an der Universität Gent und arbeitete dort unter anderem zur audiovisuellen Repräsentation von Melancholie im zeitgenössischen Kino. Anschließend absolvierte sie ein Studium an der Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten in Gent, das sie 2020 mit einem Master in Filmmaking abschloss. Aktuell arbeitet sie an einem neuen Kinderfilm-Projekt, ist Kuratorin für KASKcinema und Museumsführerin in Brüssel.
