Stefanie Schroeder financed her study of photography by means of various part-time activities – i.e. a series of odd jobs where the camera is always central but photography itself incidental. She sold souvenir photos or supervised instant photo booths or took snapshots in order to prove that she’d worked properly. In a collage of photos and video clips, she now documents these activities and, with almost frightening objectivity, thinks about the possibilities of the medium. Why are photos taken? And what do they do to us? Finally and ultimately, in a process of participatory (self) observation, her film shows whatever photography is – an image of itself.
