Drive with Care
Pilvi Takala
Drive with Care investigates the life of a teacher at an elite boarding school in the US. In a deadpan, post-documentation of staged action, Takala examines the boundaries within this very singular community. The project analyses the teaching staff’s strategies for survival within the institution: how to find opportunities for leeway and breathing space, without risking violating the unwritten rules of living together?

Pilvi Takala
Pilvi Takala (born in 1981) lives and works between Berlin and Helsinki. Her video works are based on performative interventions in which she shows that it is often possible to learn about the implicit rules of a social situation only by its disruption. Her work has been shown in MoMA PS1 and New Museum, Kiasma, Palais de Tokyo, Manifesta 11, and the 9th Istanbul Biennial. Takala won the Dutch Prix de Rome in 2011 and the Emdash Award and Finnish State Prize for Visual Arts in 2013.
