Camp Beaverton: Meet the Beavers

Burning Man is an experiential art festival that lasts eight days in the Black Rock desert in northern Nevada. It creates a temporary city that is home to almost 60,000 people who live within the ten principles that makes Burning Man’s collective philosophy: radical inclusion, gifting, decommodification, radical Self-reliance, radical Self-expression, Communal Effort, Civic Responsibility, Leaving No Trace, Participation, Immediacy. Camp Beaverton is the only women only, trans-inclusive, sex positive camp at Burning Man. They teach workshops on safe sex, sexual techniques and good communication skills. They also host various events and play parties such as the infamous Strap-on-a-thon, possibly the largest women only, trans-inclusive sex play party on the planet. They are family on and off the playa and offer a safe space for women to explore their desires, boundaries and realize their fantasies. Camp Beaverton: Meet the Beavers is a documentary film by Ana Grillo and Beth Nelsen who explored this experimental community camp for self-described Wayward Girls at Burning Man 2012.

Ana Grillo
Ana Grillo is an independent filmmaker, cinematographer and award-winning photographer. She began her career specializing in documentary photography, won a spot in the prestigious Eddie Adams Workshop in 1997 and started freelancing for The New York Times. Ana has been documenting film festivals since 2007. In 2009, she moved to San Francisco to become a filmmaker herself. Since then, she has worked on several award-winning films as a cinematographer. Meet the Beavers is her first feature documentary film.
Beth Nelson
Filmmaker Beth Nelsen discovered her love of documentary while undertaking an internship with Feury Grant Entertainment in New York City in 2001. In 2004 she left the US and eventually landed in Melbourne, Australia, where she earned her Master of Arts in Film & Television from the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA). Upon graduation in 2007, Beth earned four nominations and won Most Promising Director for her thesis project about same-sex binational couples. In 2007 she also returned to the US and currently serves for the Suscol Intertribal Council in the Napa Valley.
