Bruderland ist abgebrannt (Brotherland has burnt down) is dedicated to the fate of Vietnamese contract workers in the GDR whose government-arranged contracts were rendered invalid with the fall of the Berlin Wall. The film was made in 1991, when a certain »pogrom« mood was present in Berlin’s streets, and is one of the rare testimonies of the time that closely examines everyday racism and structural exclusion.
