Frederike Migom
Elias is a quiet boy who is determined to protect the endangered okapi in Africa. Congo-born Binti, on the other hand, is full of life; she has her own vlog and is living illegally in Belgium with her father. The two of them hide during a police raid at Elias’ home. While the children hatch plans to save the okapi, their parents get to know each other better. Despite serious subjects such as asylum, illegality and deportation, Binti is an engaging and entertaining film.

Frederike Migom ist eine in Brüssel lebende Regisseurin und Drehbuchautorin. Sie studierte Schauspiel an der American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York, bevor sie ein Filmstudium an der École Superieure d’Etudes Cinématographiques in Paris abschloss. Ihr Spielfilmdebüt Binti (2019) hatte 2020 beim Sundance Film Festival seine Nordamerika-Premiere und wurde seitdem mit einer Reihe von Auszeichnungen und Nominierungen versehen, unter anderem mit dem ECFA Award für den besten europäischen Jugendfilm 2020 und dem Preis für den besten internationalen Kinderfilm beim Cinekid 2019.
