An Ode to Vaginismus

In An Ode to Vaginismus, Indian poet Divya Dureja recites her eponymous poem which verbalises the shame and pain felt by many women in society – not only in former colonial states but in countries globally. In her self-confident performance, she reflects openly on her experiences as a queer cis woman in a country defined by archaic, heteronormative structures, and her life with vaginismus, a rarely discussed sexual disorder that affects women all over the world.

In Köln geboren, arbeitete Catrine Val zuerst in Wien als Werbegrafikerin. Nach Abschluss des Studiums an der Kunsthochschule Kassel besuchte sie den postgraduierten Studiengang der Kunsthochschule für Medien Köln. Val zeigt ihre Videoarbeiten und Fotografien international. 2013 lief beim IFFF Dortmund+Köln ihr Film Commodity Fetishism, 2014 ihr Film Strike a Pose und 2017 An Ode to Vaginismus. Das Plakatmotiv des IFFF 2014 stammt von Val.
