Final spurt for the films of the International Debut Feature Film Competition
On Sunday, the IFFF Dortmund+Köln 2024 will reach its grand finale with the award ceremony at the Filmforum NRW.
There, the prize for the best international debut feature film will be awarded. Until then, you will have the chance to see films from the competition on Saturday and Sunday. All films are also nominated for the audience award, which you can vote for before it is awarded on Sunday.
Programme on Saturday:
Mambar Pierrette
4:15 pm | Odeon Cologne
Pierrette is a single mother and seamstress in Douala. She sews school uniforms and dresses for special occasions and is a discreet confidante to her customers. Her autonomy is hard-won on a daily basis, as it is not only the floods that constantly threaten Pierrette’s livelihood. An unpathetic portrait of a self-confident woman in a supportive community.
Guest: Rosine Mbakam (Director)
Family Time (Mummola)
8:30 pm | Odeon Cologne
Door open. Door closed. Three generations meet at Christmas in their grandparents’ house. The patriarch is already drunk in the morning, the daughters and grandchildren are caught between rehearsed rituals, anecdotes, banal actions, TV and sauna sessions. With Tia Kouvo’s clever direction, this film has all the potential to be a drama, alternating between uproariously funny and touching behavioural studies of familiar family dynamics.
Guest: Tia Kouvo (Director)
Programme on Sunday:
Camping du Lac
2:30 pm | Odeon Cologne
After her car breaks down, Éléonore finds herself stranded on a campsite – with a view of the lake in which a giant fish is said to live. As she observes the permanent campers, the car repair becomes secondary: the present and the fictional past become blurred and the imagination takes over. A compact and curious debut about the relationship between humans, nature and how this can be told.
Guest: Éléonore Saintagnan (Director)
Programme for Saturday in Dortmund (!):
Ellbogen
6 pm | Schauburg Dortmund
Hazal can’t find an apprenticeship, she isn’t even called in for a job interview. On her 18th birthday, she wants to forget the rejections and celebrate with her friends … and fails to do so because of the arrogant doorman. On the way home, her anger escalates into a momentous act and Hazal flees from Berlin to Istanbul. A film adaptation of the bestseller by Fatma Aydemir.
