»Imagine Afghanistan« – IFFF Dortmund+Köln goes Berlinale

The 10th discussion organised by the IFFF Dortmund+Köln on gender equity and the status of women* in the film industry entiteld »Imagine Afghanistan: Women Filmmakers and Their Vision« will take place on February 14 as part of the 72nd Berlinale.

A new generation of young Afghan film directors has celebrated international success in recent years. The terrorist takeover by the Taliban in August 2021 introduced a radical turning point. How can Afghanistan be represented on film after these catastrophic events? What images can still emerge? How much are images from and about Afghanistan pre-conditioned by Western narratives?

These questions are the focus of this year’s network meeting Imagine Afghanistan: Women Filmmakers and Their Vision, with the internationally celebrated directors and DoPs Shahrbanoo Sadat (The Orphanage), Rokhsareh Ghaem Maghami (Sundance-winning documentary filmmaker of Sonita) and Zamarin Wahdat (Learning to Skateboard in a Warzone, Bambirak). The discussion is moderated by the director of the Nuremberg International Human Rights Film Festival, Andrea Kuhn.

The IFFF Dortmund+Köln organizes this online network meeting as an associated partner of the European Film Market, it is accessible to EFM accredited participants. Participation is free, registration required discussion.frauenfilmfest.com.
After the discussion, we invite you to a digital get-together on Spatial Chat.
