Formfragen: A Film is More than 90 Minutes Long – 30 Years of Observational Cinema

The films in Panorama’s Questions of Form segment expand on innovative techniques while creative methods enhance the classic cinematic experience. This year, we are presenting a 30-year long-term observation. Aysun Bademsoy’s film shows women who remain in search of something. Her documentary approach draws a multi-layered portrait of former female football players and asks how our paths through life are shaped across generations.
Safiye, Arzu, Türkan, Nalan and Nazan from BSC-Agrispor are at home in Berlin-Kreuzberg. We follow the girls through training sessions, at away games, at home with their families and at work. Time passes. As they soak up a Berlin summer, they contemplate leaving the club. Their lives continue to evolve; they drop out of university, start families. Thirty years after their first encounter, the focus shifts to the next generation. Born and raised in Germany, their daughters ask themselves: Do we really feel accepted here? The former players, meanwhile, look back on a youth when football provided a space for emancipation.
