Book Presentation: »Was wir filmten – Filme von ostdeutschen Regisseurinnen nach 1990« with »Becoming Black«

Buchcover der Publikation Was wir filmten - Filme von ostdeutschen Regisseurinnen nach 1990

The International Women* Film Fest Dortmund+Köln invites you to the book presentation:

The directors from three generations themselves tell what they filmed in this book. Their texts open up new spaces of possibility for the examination of filmmaking from an East German perspective between 1990 and today; they are valuable counter-memoirs, for they neither romanticize the past nor engage in historical simplifications. The anthology includes eyewitness accounts, conversations, detailed film analyses, and offers a multi-voiced stocktaking.

Jane Chirwa and Cornelia Klauß will read from texts by Ines Johnson-Spain, Johanna-Yasirra Kluhs, Tamara Trampe.

Afterwards film screening: Becoming Black (Ines Johnson-Spain, DE 2019), the story of a little girl in the GDR of the 1960s, who is told by her white parents that her brown skin color is a coincidence and has no meaning. 40 years later, an autobiographical documentary seems the only appropriate form to ask the necessary questions.

Followed by Q&A with Ines Johnson-Spain, moderated by Betty Schiel.

Admission: 8,50 Euro (5 Euro for arsenal members)
